"A school is a building which has four walls with tomorrow inside” Lou Watters, a philosophy on which we design the ecosystem in our schools. These are places where live minds are forever in the state of creation. Facilitating them to be active learners, potential leaders, and gracious contributors is not just our motto but our creed. A child’s mind is a curious mind. It must be taught ‘to think’, not ‘what to think’. A girl child transforms into an adult while she is at school and hence, the contribution of a school is paramount in ensuring that she comes out confident, grounded, with a high sense of integrity, humility, and competence. Like Aristotle said. “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all”. Eventually, education needs to serve a purpose, it cannot exist in isolation. Education cannot ignore the requirement or expectations of the society from the individual. Hence, we prepare our children to contribute to the society physically, mentally, and emotionally. Our aim at Vantage Hall is to ensure that our girls develop a passion for learning and become lifelong learners. We inspire our girls to be curious, to want to know the ‘Why, What, When and How’ of everything and contribute to the wellbeing of the society by being trendsetters. ‘Falcons’ as our girls are called, are trained to be survivors under every condition. Survival takes them to far away destinations, but they always stay connected to their roots and values and confidently fly high. Encouraging intelligence and building character is our strength! We believe in giving wings to our girls and enabling them to transform their dreams into reality and that is “My Dream’’!! - Ms. Monisha Datta Director, Vantage Hall Girls Residential School, Dehradun
Monisha Datta has been a dreamer all her life and always aimed for the different. Only men could be in the Defence Forces in the early ‘90s. Believing that women could be in all fields, she aspired to be in the Forces and cleared the SSB for Air Force - ATC (First batch for women’s entry). Destiny had other plans though when the Government decided to withdraw funds and canceled the ATC branch. Never one to say die, she shifted gears and did her master’s in computer science and became a software developer and later did her MBA in Advertising. While developing software, she became a corporate trainer. Always a favorite with children, she soon realized that corporate world was taking her away from her area of passion – children, writing, music, and art. She thus decided to move into the challenging world of boarding schools. She has been the co-founder of The Doon Girls School, Dehradun Boys School and now is the driving force behind Vantage Hall. While at The Doon Girls School, she has been actively designing child-centric curriculum and pedagogies which best suited to the needs of the primary school children. She is a trained vocalist, product designer, equestrian and a commercial painter. A multi-talented person and a leader in the education sector for the last 20 years, she has authored books for NCERT and is a regular trainer and speaker in various leadership programs in and around the country. A continuous learner, she is currently involved in understating the global education systems and is devising curriculum and pedagogies for senior schools based on global requirements. ‘You learn till you die’, is her philosophy and that’s how she lives.
